SUMMARY:Boston Comics in Color Festival
DESCRIPTION:The Boston Comics in Color Festival [BCICF] is a family-friendly event for all ages focusing on creators of color and stories by and about people of color. This event will take place in person* the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center on the campus of Roxbury Community College (RCC) and is the first of its kind in the city of Boston. The event will include event headliner(s); special guest speakers; panel discussions with working artist and writers\, workshops\, live art demos\, as well as an artist alley for comic creators to share and sell their books\, materials\, artwork. \nThe Boston Comics in Color Festival is the culmination of a movement co founded by two Boston-based comic creators\, Barrington Edwards and Cagen Luse. \n​In 2013 they connected with one another over a mutual love of comics while in an art exhibition together. In 2015 they traveled to the Schomburg Library’s Black Comic Book Festival and were both blown away by the sight of hundreds of people of color enjoying and creating comics. It was a paradigm shift to even realize that places like this exist. \nOn the ride back to home they both felt that Boston needs to have a space like this that not only celebrates stories by creators of color but is a space for Blerds to be themselves and connect with one another.

DESCRIPTION:The Black Policy Conference hosted by the Harvard Kennedy School serves as a policy-driven forum that brings together leading minds and practitioners to find sustainable solutions to challenges affecting Black communities. \nBy creating a dialogue between students\, policymakers\, practitioners\, academics\, and community members\, the students seek to evaluate existing systems and inspire agents of change and progress. \nPanels and workshops will help to equip participants to engage with communities\, facilitate educational dialogue on relevant policy issues\, and become stronger advocates for civic participation. \nAs the theme for this year’s conference\, students have chosen Black Renaissance: Activating Our Visions and Celebrating Our Roots\, we will explore the impact of action\, imagination\, collaboration\, and legacy and their impact on Black Communities. We are currently anticipating an audience of about 300-500 people\, including Kennedy School students\, Black students from other policy schools\, some members of the public\, and our panelists. \nThis year’s specific topics include Building a True Democracy\, Black Philanthropy: Leveraging Capital Towards Black Visions\, Black Organizing for Change\, and Environmental Justice.

DESCRIPTION:Divine Ikubor\, popularly known as Rema\, is a Nigerian singer and rapper\, he was born on the 1st of May 2000. In 2019\, he signed a record deal with Jonzing World\, a subsidiary of Mavin Records. He rose to prominence with the release of the song “Iron Man”\, which appeared on Barack Obama’s 2019 summer playlist. Rema was born into a highly spiritual Christian family in Benin City\, Edo State Nigeria. Rema grew up singing and rapping while in secondary school. He attended his primary and secondary school in Edo State. \nAfter Rema signed a record deal with Jonzing World in 2019\, he released his debut EP Rema. After two more EPs\, he released his debut album Rave & Roses on 25 March 2022. The album includes 16 tracks and features from 6lack\, Chris Brown\, AJ Tracey\, and Yseult. The album charted 10 songs on the US Billboard Afrobeats Chart following its debut week.[18] His single “Calm Down”\, including a sample from fellow Nigerian artist Crayon’s track “So Fine”\,[19] then began charting five months after its official release.[20] It then became the most-viewed Afrobeats video on Youtube. \nOn August 26\, 2022\, he released a remix of his song “Calm Down” with Selena Gomez which peaked at number 6 on Billboard Hot 100 and number 1 on Billboard Global Excl. U.S. Chart. \nOn February 2023\, Rema received the Digital Artist of the Year award at the Soundcity MVP Awards which were held at the Eko Convention Centre in Lagos.
